Out the Door (2025)
I created this piece with my oldest child in mind. We are a family with food allergies & allergic disorders (MCAS) so in just about every corner of our home, and for sure in every purse & backpack in our home, you can find emergency medications.
Side note: the watermelon wallet & phone are a way to tie my youngest child into this piece as well. As a baby she had a severe milk allergy that she’s thankfully since outgrown. But, she loves watermelon & often designs her own art with watermelon themes .
Before we walk out the door it has become custom for us to rattle off, "phone. wallet. keys. medicine." as a checklist to ensure we aren't forgetting the necessities for when we leave the house. Leaving without an epi pen could mean we don't make it back home.
Living with MCAS and life threatening food allergies can be a huge adjustment but it's such a necessary one. If you or a loved one live with LTFAs or MCAS, you're not alone.
